Ripping DVD on Apple Mac OS X

Apple is know for making the tasks for people easy. They do not know, how it works, it just works fine for them. So you do not have to think about the applications and consistency of data as the system itself will take care for you. But, when it comes to DVDs and making
your own copies (and just your own copies), users of Mac OS X are in a completely different situation from the Windows or Linux users.
It is a bit sad as the program for decoding DVDs was born on Linux and Linux and Mac OS X have the common roots.
On Mac OS X there is no a program, which would be able to rip DVD and make its copy in one single step. There programs, which need to be combined to produce an exact DVD copy, which can be used for a playback and to help to protect the original.
There are two possible ways of burning DVDs:
- Ripping DVD with MacTheRipper and the encoding and burning the DVD with Titaniun Toaster. Both programs are completely ok and pretty intuitive in the function. The only thing, everyone has to be aware is the disk space needed during the ripping and encoding the movie. The advantage is the full control over the process, as both applications offer huge amount of possibilities and features.
- Ripping DVD movie using MediaFork and encoding it directly into the different format. The most common format is a kind of a DivX format or its variation, which can be put also directly to the iPod or it can be burned to the DVD directly by pushing the file over the icon of the empty DVD. As most DVD players today know, how to play DivX. And you have no issue and time waste by watching those warning about stealing movies, etc.
Some people say, there is also an option of making a DVD from DivX or QuickTime movies in iDVD, but I had no luck with that and it always stopped on some errors.
Do you have any other option?
ok there is an awesome app called handbrake that lets you rip DVD’s and encode it at the same time .. it just works! ( the website is in the my website field)
