NeoOffice Calc: Work and Feel
Apr 15th, 2007 by AndieCZ
After making NeoOffice my primary office suite on Mac OS X, I am completely fine with NeoOffice Writer, but I have my personal war with NeoOffice Calc. The spreadsheet part of the NeoOffice suite was inspired by MS Excel, but many ideas and functionalities were implemented differently.
It is really mainly about a different approach to automatic filling. When you have a row of numbers and you want the application to fill the rest of numbers based on predictions, you can be sure, it will be done differently from MS Excel. Which is confusing a lot.
But my main issue is about the speed. Filling the cell with the formula and then waiting for the result to appear on the screen. And making more complex formulas takes really a lot of time to see.
Generally, NeoOffice Calc is a very solid basis for the future development of the NeoOffice. But it has a lot of issues at the moment and they need to be solved before the application can be a standard part of your office. I think, I will have to use MS Excel for the time being. But I believe, there will be a huge development visible from the version to version.
